The following improvements are being proposed within Segment 5:

• Future Transportation Corridor
• Modify I-35 ramps
• Modify I-35 intersections
• Add collector-distributor roads
• Implement Texas Super Street concept
• Reconstruct I-35 downtown
• Modify/reconstruct bridges
• Widen outside lanes of all I-35 Frontage Roads for bicycles
• Complete sidewalk connections

Proposed improvements for each intersection within Segment 5 include the following:

MLK Boulevard

• Northbound and southbound ramp modifications
• New northbound collector-distributor road
• Bridge modifications
• Bicycle and pedestrian improvements for east-west connectivity

12th Street to Holly Street

• Northbound and southbound ramp modifications and reversals
• New northbound collector-distributor roads from 6th Street to Holly Street
• New southbound collector-distributor road from Cesar Chavez to south of Holly Street
• Mainlane reconstruction
  • Option 1: Modified existing mainlanes (including widening existing elevated structure)
  • Option 2: Fully depressed mainlanes
    • Potential future caps between 12th and 11th Streets; 8th and 6th Streets; and 4th and Driskill Streets
• Texas Super Street
• Bicycle and pedestrian improvements for east-west connectivity
