In Travis County alone, I-35 improvements could cost $1.3-$1.9 Billion in 2013 dollars ($1.5-$2.2 Billion in 2020 dollars), depending on the downtown concept that is ultimately selected. No matter what concepts are chosen to improve I-35, funding will be required to make the improvements. The I-35 Capital Area Improvement Program provides an opportunity for the region to explore transportation funding in Texas and to have input on solutions.
A healthy and reliable transportation system is critical for the Austin region now and in the future. However, solving the I-35 current funding issues will require a multi-level approach, with all Central Texans involved in the process.
