I-35 at William Cannon Drive/Stassney Lane
Overview
The schematic and environmental process is nearing completion for the reconstruction of the William Cannon Drive and Stassney Lane intersections. In addition, preparation of design plans has started for this project.
Purpose and Need
- Increases safety by reducing lane merging/weaving on both north and southbound mainlanes
- Improves peak hour intersection operations at each intersection
End Result
- Replaced frontage road bridges over Williamson Creek
- Reconstructed bridges structures at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive
- New U-turn bridges at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive
- Widened mainlanes to incorporate shoulders and auxiliary lanes
- Reconfigured ramps
- Improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities
Funding
- Project development funded by TxDOT
- Construction not currently funded
- Construction cost estimate: $61 million
Schedule
- Public Open House: December 2013
- Finalized schematic and environmental documentation: anticipated by end of 2014
- Begin plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) documentation: July 2014
- Complete PS&E: anticipated January 2016
