I-35 at RM 1431
Overview:
Construction of an innovative intersection will alleviate an existing bottleneck at the intersection of RM 1431 and I-35. The project includes construction of a southbound collector-distributor road and ramp improvements.

Need & Purpose
- High volume of left-turn traffic which impairs traffic flow and increases congestion
- Proposed intersection accommodates turning movements onto and from University Drive
- Eliminates the need for a left-turn bays and left turn signal phases
- Minimizes the number of potential conflicts between through traffic and left-turn traffic

- Traditional intersection replaced with a Diverging Diamond Intersection
- New southbound Collector-Distributor road

- Traditional development by TxDOT
- Construction cost estimate: $7 million

Schedule
- Construction start: anticipated August 2014
- Construction duration: approximately 12 months
