I-35 at RM 1431

Overview:

Construction of an innovative intersection will alleviate an existing bottleneck at the intersection of RM 1431 and I-35. The project includes construction of a southbound collector-distributor road and ramp improvements.

Need & Purpose
  • High volume of left-turn traffic which impairs traffic flow and increases congestion
  • Proposed intersection accommodates turning movements onto and from University Drive
  • Eliminates the need for a left-turn bays and left turn signal phases
  • Minimizes the number of potential conflicts between through traffic and left-turn traffic
End Result
  • Traditional intersection replaced with a Diverging Diamond Intersection
  • New southbound Collector-Distributor road
Funding
  • Traditional development by TxDOT​
  • Construction cost estimate: $7 million
Schedule
  • Construction start: anticipated August 2014
  • Construction duration: approximately 12 months
